Dear Pine Island Alumni and Friends,
Four months ago, after our decision to cancel the 2020 camp season, the board and friends of the camp created a $300,000 matching fund to cover Pine Island’s budget shortfall and position camp to face the challenges ahead. Through the generosity of alumni and parents, we’ve raised $225,000 toward that match. If you’ve already contributed, thank you for your generosity!
To thank all of our donors and to wrap up this campaign, we’re hosting a Shortfall Campaign Campfire on Wednesday, October 7th at 7 p.m. This is a free event and we hope you can join us (on Zoom) as we celebrate this great community. We’ll begin with a social gathering and then settle in for some classic acts from the past forty years. It’s going to be great!
The money you’ve contributed so far has already yielded big benefits:
- All summer, a small crew on the island was engaged with our campers through creative, informative, and entertaining tutorials, lessons, and campfires. They found a way to cultivate the PIC community from afar.
- Large-scale maintenance projects that would have been tough to tackle in ordinary times, including refurbishing the Dining Hall floor, rehabbing the South Perch, and many other projects, have been completed.
- Our immediate financial obligations including insurance, rent, property taxes, salaries, etc., have been met.
- We have been able to hold tuition steady for 2021, with no increase.
While the pandemic has created financial challenges, it has also made the case for a summer at Pine Island in a way no brochure ever could. With hybrid class schedules around the world relying heavily on computers in an already screen-centric world, children need outdoor experiences to learn and grow now more than ever before. We’re committed to being that place for generations to come.
