Dear Friends of Pine Island Camp,
Veteran Pine Islanders Silas Hunter and Tanner Carson are returning to Pine Island this summer to lead Expedition Camp, our leadership training and advanced tripping program available to 15- and 16-year-olds! With nearly 20 years of combined experience navigating the trails and waterways of New England, Silas and Tanner are highly skilled trip leaders, excellent role models, and just plain great guys to head out into the wilderness with.
Silas and Tanner will be up at Pine Island in early June to get recertified as Wilderness First Responders and to work with former Expedition Camp leaders Ben Cabot and Ryan Gilbert to prepare for another amazing summer.
We are excited about the resilient group of campers that has already signed up for this program, which includes two extended camping trips (one canoeing and one backpacking), leadership training, Wilderness First Aid certification, and front-row seats at some of the most beautiful campsites anywhere in the world.
We have room for two more adventurous campers in this program, so spread the word! Boys can be 15 or 16 years old and first-time Pine Islanders are welcome.
If someone you know might be interested, please give us a call (207-465-3031) or send me an email.
Thank you,
Meet our Expedition Camp Leaders

Silas Hunter
Silas is returning for his ninth summer at PIC and his fourth as a counselor. A seasoned outdoorsman, Silas thru-hiked Vermont’s Long Trail the summer of 2020. He has taught Woodcraft for several summers and worked alongside Facilities Director Peter Thompson as part of the Fall Crew this past year. This winter, Silas is living the “Lifty Life” at Sunday River (a Maine ski resort), ensuring everyone is safe on the lift and skiing to his heart’s content. He’s excited to return to beautiful trails and campsites with this year’s Expedition Camp crew.

Tanner Carson
This will be Tanner’s ninth summer at Pine Island Camp and his third as a staff member. He is a mechanical engineering student at the University of Maine in Orono and is excited to be co-leading Expedition Camp this summer. Tanner previously taught Swimming and served as a lifeguard at camp. During the school year, he is a member of the UMaine club rowing team and enjoys skiing at Sugarloaf and Sunday River. He’s looking forward to another great summer at PIC!
